Baked!

The book

Baked! Sex, Drugs, and Alternative Comedy is one man’s memoir of selling pot cookies while pursuing a career in show business in New York City in the late 2000s.

Baked! by John Flynn

I know I’m not supposed to say this, but selling drugs is the best job in the world.

You get to make your own hours, you interact with lots of different people, and every time you show up somewhere, people get excited and give you money. I didn’t know any of this when I started selling pot cookies. Some people sell drugs to feel popular, some do it because they think it will get them laid, and some do it because they’re looking for an excuse to carry a gun. I became a drug dealer because I wanted to bedazzle a hat.

“John Flynn is the only storyteller who has made me gasp audibly multiple times while hearing a story I’ve already heard!”

— Lennon Parham, actor/writer/director, “Playing House”

“John Flynn is a very naughty roommate, but a wonderful storyteller. Read this book for the amazing story but go to Craigslist for a roommate.”

— Jeff Hiller, actor, “Somebody Somewhere”

John Flynn is a master memoirist and gets his readers hooked in the first five pages. His recollections of sexual shenanigans, the indignities that befall a young working actor, paying the rent in a far more interesting New York City than exists today, and moving to Los Angeles – where everyone is baked one way or another – are funny, evocative, and moving. Dungeons and drag queens, an Oksana Baiul ice musical, a killer cookie recipe, and, bar none, the funniest footnotes ever written – Baked has them all. The big challenge Flynn presents is: Can you laugh this hard and not stop reading? I couldn’t put it down.
— Frank DeCaro, Author of “A Boy Named Phyllis: A Suburban Memoir.”

“I can’t tell you the amount of times I have had a night entirely made and/or entirely derailed by one of Flynn's cookies. They were my first edibles, and hopefully when it comes time, they will be my last.”

— Jon Gabrus, podcast, “High & Mighty”

“This man is brilliant, gay, and has very red hair – the very qualities that made Charlotte Rae a superstar in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.”

— Jason O’Connell, actor/writer, “The Dork Knight”
